CLUTTER CLEARING
Clothes, Clothes and More Clothes
Where to begin? There are probably few of us that do not have at least one article
of clothing or accessory in our wardrobe that was a seriously bad purchasing decision.
The big question is "why is it still there?" If you really do not like it and do not
intend to ever wear it, get rid of it, no matter what it cost you to buy it in the
first place. For designer gear, you could take it to a second-hand designer shop
or sell it on EBay or another auction site so you will at least get something
for it. In fact, any clothes that you do not want could be sold online;
otherwise, give them to eager friends, jumble sales, charity collections,
or charity shops. Rag Banks accept many kinds of clean clothes and shoes at
recycling points (in the UK at least). Make yourself happy and make someone
else happy - pass on what you don't want.
For many of us, weight gain can be a problem; we deny ourselves new clothes on
the basis that we want to lose weight, and will not clear away old clothes on
the basis that we will fit into them again, if it is the last thing we do. Time
for a reality check here. When was the last time that you actually fitted into
a size 8 or 10 or whatever size you regard your sublime self as having been? Is
it more than a year ago? Is it more than five years ago? Is it more than ten
years ago, perhaps? The chances are that if it were more than about three
years ago, you would not be caught dead in any of the clothes, even if they
did fit you. Get them out and have a look. If you agree with me, get rid of
them now. They are only making you unhappy thinking about how you used to
fit into them but cannot do so any longer, as well as taking up much-needed
space in your wardrobe / chest of drawers / shelves.
While it is always good from a health perspective as well as a happiness perspective
to try to keep to our ideal weight, or to try to return to it, is also important
for your own self-esteem that you love yourself as you are now. If you are short
of cash, make a bit of money by selling off what you don't want any more, and
treat yourself to a couple of new outfits that fit you as you are now; that
look good on you as you are now; that you really like. You will be amazed at
how much better you start to feel about yourself.
As before, keep seasonal clothes for one or maybe two years. If you have not
worn the items in question, you are unlikely to do so and would be better off
letting them go to someone else who could use them.
