CLUTTER CLEARING
Physical, Emotional, and Psychological Baggage
There can be few of us, living in the affluent West, at least, who have not
acquired a considerable amount of clutter, memorabilia, and other belongings over
the course of our lives. Often equally abundant but not necessarily so physically
obvious to the casual onlooker is the emotional and psychological baggage that we
are unfortunately likely to have accumulated. The main reason that we find clutter
so difficult to deal with is that it is generally a physical representation of the
other baggage, the "stuff" that we try to keep hidden, from ourselves as much as
from others. (If you have not already read the
Personal Energy Care section
(especially Boundaries) you might
like to do so now.
Some of the memorabilia that we have gathered is to be cherished, reminding us of
wonderful moments in our lives, enhancing our self-esteem and connecting us to
those whom we hold dear, However, unfortunately, many of the items that we hang
onto actually have the opposite effect, reinforcing negative messages by reminding
us of lost loves, lost dreams, abusive (in the widest sense) relationships,
and people, things or situations that we no longer want in our lives.
