LABYRINTHS
Breemie Labyrinth
Facts and Figures
Designed by Maria Hayden,
the Breemie Labyrinth is a derivation of a traditional “Hecate”
style version of the Classical 7 Circuit Labyrinth.
The Breemie is circular
in form, reflecting the Breemie Stone Circle and the importance
of the circle, or more accurately “ring” in
the wider landscape, as well as the significance of the
circle in sacred geometry as a shape representative of Spirit.
There are 7 (the number
traditionally associated with Spirit) circuits, the outer
4 following the more traditional back-and-forth motion of
the Classical Labyrinth, and the inner 3 taking the form
of a spiral, again in response to the landscape, and the
site-specific requirements. At the centre (the labyrinth
goal), there is another perfect circle (although it is not,
and should not be, entirely marked out on the physical plane)
that is 4 path widths wide, allowing the space to be used
by in an appropriate manner by groups as well as individuals.
The outlying stone marks the point of the Summer Solstice
sunrise, as the first beams hit the centre stone, known
as The Frog Stone.
The labyrinth was created
and installed by Maria Hayden and Barry Hoon, both geomancers
and members of The
Geomancy Group, on 17 and 18 June 2005, with the invaluable
assistance of Colin Sherriffs, and hundreds of visitors
to the Breemie Stone Circle Mid-Summer Festival. We chose
the site, found the energetic centre of the space, and identified
the wall positions by a combination of remote and on-site
dowsing, as well as by connecting with the Spirit of Place.
Therefore, we did not take any measurements until afterwards,
when we discovered the labyrinth to be some 46 ft in diameter.
The labyrinth paths are completely
wheelchair and buggy accessible.
We give special thanks to
Alan Brownie, the landowner, who has been so open to the
labyrinth and its possibilities, and has been so generous
in welcoming all to visit and use this site, to Jason Schroeder
who invited us to come and play at Breemie, and especially
to Spirit for guiding us throughout this process.
We trust that anyone who
visits will enjoy exploring the labyrinth at Breemie and
will benefit by your interaction with this sacred and multifunctional
tool.
As with all sacred spaces, labyrinths
can be fine-tuned for different purposes depending on where
and how they are located, and the intention in the heart
of whoever is creating them. If you would like any advice
regarding the installation of a labyrinth or other sacred
space, we would invite you to use my Contact
Form or to go via The
Geomancy Group site.
